WE ARE A TRANSMEDIA STORYTELLING CONCEPT

Transmedia storytelling is defined by Henry Jenkins, as a process where multiple important elements of a narrative is distributed across multiple channels. It’s an interesting concept because you have multiple stories building to form one world.

You have a TV show and then a year later you have a sequel to that specific TV show. However, you also have a series of movies that give us background knowledge, leading up to the sequel, explaining how this sequel came to be. In between all this, you have books and comics published, that all give different experiences and building to this one plot.

Thinking about it, our life is constantly a transmedia concept. We have our different curricular activities adding to our life profile, along with our achievements and rewards we have come to acquire throughout the years. Finally, what others think about us, is just the icing on the cake. We have all these elements adding to our life story, and I think that’s a wonderful concept to comprehend.

  1. This is a great reflective writing style starting with a helpful definition and fully rounding to encompass a personal perspective that the reader can relate to. I’m always a fan of getting into fantasy shows in particular that have the multi-faceted story elements like you described, do you have a favourite genre or particular example of it you enjoy in tv or anything else? Classic meme by the way!

    1. THANK YOU! um, in the case of transmedia storytelling, I have the say the first thing that came to mind was anime like they just have so many narratives all pulling together to add to the original 🙂

  2. Text: Really good analysis of what transmedia storytelling is, which is the combination of multiple narratives distributed across multiple channels. A TV show is a perfect transmedia example; however, it would have been great if you have of given a specific movie example – such as The Matrix, Star Trek, Star Wars ect. Furthermore, identify how they have been effective in becoming a transmedia phenomenon. Overall, great job 😊

  3. Gloria!! The information you provided was clear and concise which made it easy to understand. Your writing style is quite humorous which engages the audience. My only suggestion would be to add an example maybe from your favourite, show, movie, book etc. to allow the audience to further understand the concept of transmedia.

  4. I like how you’ve explained transmedia and and how all things created build to make ‘one world’ and I like how you referred the idea of transmedia to yourself personally, it made it more relatable. The only suggestion I have is you could have possibly added a specific example of a well known series or sequel, and even added photos of all the sequels. Other than that, great work 🙂
